Breasts Changes Over Time
The size and shape of the female breast is largely a reflection of a woman’s biologic clock. Many women experience hormonal changes and weight fluctuations over time and often will see their breasts change as a result.
During pregnancy, the breasts typically become enlarged and denser. With breastfeeding and pregnancy, the skin becomes stretched and the breast loses its firmness and size. Changes in the size and volume of the breast may permanently stretch the skin, resulting in stretch marks and sagging. Breast augmentation can help to replace breast volume and firmness.
At menopause, breast atrophy occurs. The breasts can decrease in size when the levels of circulating estrogen decline, followed by the withering of the adipose tissue and the milk glands. Sagging of the breasts is a normal consequence of aging. A breast lift can improve the shape and appearance of breasts while restoring the nipple to its natural position, remove excess skin to shape the breast, and minimize scarring as much as possible.
If the loss of breast volume is significant, a lift procedure can be combined with breast augmentation to restore both size and shape.
